Against the backdrop of the remarks made by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that stirred controversy, the Russian Embassy in Israel issued a statement this morning (Wednesday) clarifying that the actions of Hamas on October 7 cannot be justified.

In a statement that was published, it was written: "Violence and the killing of Israelis who were exposed to it on October 7 cannot be justified. We send our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured. Taking hostages is unacceptable, and all hostages must be released."

About a week after the massacre in the Gaza Strip envelope settlements, President Putin condemned the deadly attack by Hamas and clarified that "Israel was attacked with unprecedented cruelty, and of course it has the right to defend itself and ensure its continued existence."

However, in his further remarks, Putin reiterated his call for the establishment of a Palestinian state. He stated, "In the current situation, there is no alternative other than the establishment of two independent states." According to him, "It is critical to reach a solution through peaceful means. The negotiations should focus on the UN solution for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem, living in peace alongside Israel."

Furthermore, Putin cautioned against an Israeli ground operation and warned that "if a ground operation begins in Gaza, it will lead to the killing of civilians, and this is something we cannot accept... The most important thing now is to stop the fire."
