At Barzilai Medical Center, there has been a sharp increase in the number of cases of children and teenagers injured following the popular "Superman Dance" challenge on TikTok.

The viral TikTok “Superman” dance trend has taken social media by storm, showcasing participants mimicking Superman’s iconic flying pose. The trend involves three people working together: two form a hand-held platform while the third person runs, leaps onto it, and strikes the Superman pose with one arm extended forward and the other pulled back. Participants then rotate roles to ensure everyone gets a turn.

Set to a clip of Silento’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” specifically the lyrics “Now watch me you (Soulja)/Now watch Superman (okay),” the trend has been featured in countless videos, many of which flawlessly execute the stunt. However, some clips reveal mishaps, with participants suffering falls and injuries when the platform fails to support the leaper.

Despite TikTok issuing trigger warnings on some videos, the trend has amassed millions of views and likes. Concerns have grown over safety risks, particularly after one user shared how their attempt resulted in their younger sister breaking her arms.

This is a very dangerous challenge that can cause serious injuries, including fractures and head injuries.

At Barzilai Medical Center, parents and teachers warn of the dangers inherent in this challenge and seek to increase awareness among the public.
