The Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) has uncovered a sophisticated Iranian cyber operation targeting prominent Israeli figures through elaborate phishing schemes. The campaign, which included approximately 200 attempted cyber attacks, involved hackers impersonating Government Secretary Yossi Fuchs to gain access to sensitive information.

Security officials revealed that the Iranian operatives targeted a broad spectrum of Israeli society, including defense officials, politicians, academics, journalists, and media personalities. Their primary goal was to harvest personal data such as home addresses, regular locations, and personal connections, potentially to facilitate future physical attacks within Israel.

The attackers employed sophisticated social engineering techniques, reaching out to targets through WhatsApp, Telegram, and email with carefully crafted messages tailored to each individual's professional background. Their methods included convincing targets to either download malicious applications or enter their credentials on fake login pages that mimicked legitimate services.

A senior Shin Bet official emphasized that while the threat is significant, proper cybersecurity awareness and cautious online behavior can effectively prevent such attacks. In response, the agency has launched a comprehensive operation to alert potential targets and provide guidance on improving their online security measures.
