Syria is preparing to defend against further advances by anti-Assad forces backed by Turkey, and it is trying to call in aid from all the forces that kept the regime in power throughout the Syrian Civil War.
Hezbollah, which helped Syrian dictator Bashar Assad a great deal, is unable to help due to the serious blows inflicted on it by the IDF. The Russian Army has however announced that it will assist Assad with air strikes and other methods.
While Iran has promised assistance of "various kinds" to Assad, whose country serves as a key linchpin in Iran's network of proxy armies stretching from Iraq to Lebanon and Yemen, it remains unclear if this assistance will go beyond words.
Iran-backed Iraqi militias have declared their intention to help the Assad regime, which could not happen without Iran's blessing.
