Amos Hochstein: Ceasefire deal with a Lebanese security buffer = "fantasy deal"

US Envoy Amos Hochstein defended the ceasefire deal he brokered to Israeli media, explaining that some of the terms Israel wanted were unfeasible.

US Envoy Amos Hochstein gave an interview to Channel 12 tonight (Wednesday), arguing that a ceasefire deal including things like an IDF security buffer would be a "fantasy deal" and an unfeasible "utopia."

Hochstein said that any such deal would establish Israel as an occupying power within Lebanon, creating a reality no country, including Lebanon, would formally agree to.

The IDF continues to hold onto the positions it secured before the ceasefire and says it intends to seriously enforce the terms, even at the risk of skirmishes, battle days, and even a renewal of the fighting.

In the event the terms are fully adhered to by the end of 60 days, the army will withdraw back behind the Israeli border.
