Following the murder of a Chabad rabbi in UAE whose phone was allegedly hacked, Iran is now conducting extensive digital surveillance of thousands of Israelis, with hundreds considered "high-risk" targets.

Iranian intelligence agencies have intensified their surveillance of thousands of Israeli citizens, with several hundred individuals designated as "high-risk" targets, according to a report published today (Wednesday) by Israel Hayom.

The tragic death of Chabad Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the United Arab Emirates is believed to be connected to Iranian operatives who had compromised his phone.

Iranian intelligence services have developed comprehensive surveillance capabilities that enable them to gather extensive personal information, including home addresses and contact details, family information, social network connections, employment records and daily movement patterns.

The majority of surveillance efforts are concentrated within Israel's borders. Some targeted individuals have reportedly received direct threats disguised as "birthday greetings," ominously suggesting they might not survive to see their next birthday. In response, Israeli security services have contacted high-risk individuals, including senior defense officials, warning them to maintain vigilance and avoid international travel.

Intelligence assessments suggest Iran may intensify these operations following recent strategic setbacks in the region.

These setbacks include:

- The degradation of Hezbollah's military capabilities and its forced withdrawal from Israel's northern border
- Hamas's reduced operational capacity in the Gaza Strip
- The recent destruction of Iran's air defense systems following failed missile attacks against Israel

Iran has established terror cells across multiple countries, positioning them to target Israeli academics, scientists, and government officials. While several plots have been thwarted through international cooperation between Israeli and foreign intelligence services, recent arrests within Israel have uncovered spy networks engaged in surveillance and attack planning.

These domestic cells, primarily motivated by financial gain, have included a diverse mix of operatives: Palestinians from East Jerusalem, Israeli Jews, and Arab citizens. Their activities have ranged from photographing sensitive facilities to conducting surveillance on potential targets.
