US denies using Security Council to threaten Israel

American sources denied Prime Minister Netanyahu's claim that Israel must agree to a ceasefire, otherwise the US would allow a UNSC ceasefire resolution to pass which would be worse.

American sources speaking to Kann News denied that the United States planned to allow a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire to pass if an agreement wasn't reached.

The argument was raised by Netanyahu yesterday in preparation for the government meeting today, where it will vote on whether or not to agree on an American proposed ceasefire.

Netanyahu said that given the choice between a 60-day ceasefire, after which Trump would become President, and a ceasefire imposed by the Security Council without any benefit to Israel - the former was preferable for the country, even if not preferred.

Political commentator Amit Segal expects that the agreement will pass by an overwhelming majority, even though voters in Netanyahu's coalition overwhelmingly reject it.
