Erdogan: We cut off relations with Israel

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country has entirely cut off relations with Israel, even while the Turkish embassy continues to operate.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today (Wednesday) that Turkey "severed relations" with Israel and that the country has no intention to renew any of these ties.

This comment is likely in reference to Turkey's continued trade and weapons embargo on Israel, which Israel has tried to bypass by rerouting goods via Judea and Samaria. Public opinion has caused the Turkish government to close this loophole.

Erdogan has consistently taken a hostile line against Israel since October 7, defending Hamas as freedom fighters, accusing Israel of genocide, and even joining South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice in the Hague.
