Forces of the Bislah Brigade (828) suspected that a number of terrorists were hiding in a building near them. Following this, a tank from Company 30 (lamed) of the Tank Commanders Course (198th Shizphon Battalion) fired at the building.
According to findings at the scene, Sinwar was injured as a result. After that, infantry forces of the 450th battalion raided the building and carried out searches, during which a suspicious body was located.
At the same time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked his spokesman to inform the hostage families that there were no signs of harm to the hostages during the incident.
As reported by Jpost, "Immediately after the body was identified, Maariv published the opinion of orthodontic experts who confirmed that Sinwar’s dental structure matched that in the photos of the body– there were several unique characteristics matching the jaw structure of both the body and Sinwar."
His dental photographs were then sent to the police's medical laboratory for examination, and they confirmed a match to Sinwar.
Israel also had records of his fingerprints and his genetic material because he had been imprisoned for many years. Using all of this information, more testing was performed. The IDF then confirmed that Sinwar was in fact eliminated by tank fire in the incident.
