Although people were warned not to travel to Uman this year to visit the grave of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, hundreds of people went to spend Rosh Hashanah there anyway.
However, they are now trapped at the border, where they face a situation of 'insane chaos.'
A senior source in United Breslov explains that "The Ukrainians have created an electronic line and they only accept those who booked an appointment ahead of time. And sometimes there are no open appointments for the border for many hours ahead."
A travel agent explained "The management of the Bacău airport in Romania, together with local police, have taken sole control... They are not willing to listen or to allow the travel agents to bring in travelers if it is necessary." As a result, some flights are leaving with empty seats, while travelers remain at the border, many of whom are outside, without proper shelter and in freezing weather.
United Breslov activists have warned anyone who violates custom regulations that they could be heavily penalized.
Although both the Chairman of United Breslov in Uman and Israel's Foreign Ministry are attempting to intervene, they have been unable to make any significant progress.
