Today (Monday), the Knesset officially voted in Gideon Saar as a minister without portfolio in the Netanyahu government, by a vote of 57-40.
Saar will serve not only in the regular cabinet but also the security cabinet and in Netanyahu's smaller "consultation forum" for making war-related decisions. Saar was reportedly set to replace Yoav Gallant as Defense Minister but the escalation in the north led Saar to forgo the opportunity.
In response to his critics from the opposition, who attacked him for joining with Netanyahu despite a serious political and personal falling out years ago, Saar had previously said in a joint statement with Netanyahu that after October 7, such disputes had become "meaningless."
Today, he told the members of the opposition opposing him: "I have a message to people who still live in October 6. Move on! Move on!"
