Eve of Rosh Hashanah 5785: Nearly 10 Million Israelis

On the eve of Rosh Hashanah 5785, Israel's population stands at approximately 9.915 million people, marking an increase of 118,000 from the previous year.

Over the last year, around 33,000 individuals have immigrated to Israel. Despite the ongoing conflict, Israel continues to grow: the Central Bureau of Statistics released data today indicating that the population of Israel is estimated at about 9.915 million. Annually, the population has grown by approximately 118,000. The population growth rate is 1.2%. In Israel, about 183,000 babies were born, while approximately 55,000 people passed away.

In demographic breakdown, there are about 7.689 million Jewish and other residents (78.6% of the total population) and about 2.095 million Arab residents (21.4% of the total Israeli population).

Poll findings over the past year:

Observance of Religious Practices Among Jews

- 57% of Jews observe commandments

- 43.5% are secular

- 18.9% are traditional—not very religious

- 13.0% are traditional—religious

- 12.5% are religious

- 11.3% are ultra-Orthodox

This means that 56.5% of Israelis identify as observant to some degree.

Immigration to Israel

Since the founding of the state, 3.46 million people have immigrated to Israel. In the past year, 46,000 individuals moved to Israel (compared to 74,400 in 2022, when there was a significant influx from Russia and Ukraine due to the war).

Satisfaction with Living Conditions

- 91.9% of Jews

- 87.8% of Arabs

- 67.5% are satisfied with their economic situation

- 69.9% of Jews

- 57.2% of Arabs

Housing Satisfaction and Living Area

- 88.7% are satisfied with their housing.

- 86.0% are generally satisfied with their area of residence.

- 61.9% are satisfied with cleanliness in their area.

- 39.7% are satisfied with public transportation in their area.

Feelings of Poverty and Economic Challenges

- 9.5% felt poor in the past year:

- 4.6% of Jews

- 30.3% of Arabs
