Rescued Hostage Farhan, Gaza captivity

“I Spent Most of the Day Reading the Quran”: Hostage Farhan Recounts His Days in Captivity

After being rescued by the IDF, Farhan al-Qadi recounted to his friends what happened to him in the tunnels of the terrorist organization that held him captive underground for nearly 11 months.

Farhan al-Qadi, who was rescued yesterday (Tuesday) from Hamas captivity in a military operation in the Gaza Strip, described his experience to his friends. According to him, he spent most of the day reading the Quran by the light of a small battery-powered lamp, while there was little electricity in the tunnels—only about three hours a day. He also mentioned hearing IDF shelling and feeling everything shaking around him, as reported by "Walla!".

As a reminder, Farhan al-Qadi, who was abducted to the Gaza Strip on October 7, was rescued yesterday from a tunnel by the IDF and Shin Bet, still alive. Al-Qadi, a resident of Rahat, was hospitalized at Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva and was discharged today to his home in Rahat. Al-Qadi worked at a factory in Kibbutz Magen. He is a father of 11 children and a grandfather. Earlier today, he mentioned that in recent months he was alone, estimating that he was separated from the other hostages towards the end of December. In the past week, he was left alone in the tunnel with food and abandoned by his captors.

During his time with the terrorists, they kept track of him, including in the last week. The investigation also revealed that Farhan struggled to recall specific timelines but mentioned experiencing a significant crisis after one of the hostages with him passed away. A phrase he repeated several times was: "You don't understand, there's Gaza above and Gaza below."
