October 7, Hostages in Gaza

Tragedy: Uncle Killed in Massacre, Grandson Released, and Grandfather Killed in Captivity

Family Tragedy: On October 7, uncle Roy Mondar was killed in a massacre. His nephew was in Israel at the time and has since been released along with his mother and grandmother. Today, it was revealed that his grandfather, Abraham Mondar, was killed in captivity. May his memory be blessed.

Keren Mondar and her son Ohad traveled on October 6 to visit her grandparents, Ruthie and Abraham Mondar, at Kibbutz Nir Oz. The following morning, October 7, Hamas militants infiltrated the Gaza envelope. When the alarms started sounding in the area, the family went into the shelter together.

In a brief message, Keren managed to update her husband, Ben, that they were in a protected space. After that, contact was lost. Keren, Ohad, and Keren's parents, Ruthie and Abraham, were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip.

No one forgets the sweet Ohad, who was released in a deal, boarded a helicopter, landed at the hospital, and ran to embrace his family. Ohad was released along with his mother Keren and his grandmother, while Ohad’s grandfather, remained in captivity. The Mondar family is yet another family that has suffered a terrible tragedy. Like many other families who have lost several family members and had others kidnapped, they continue to endure a long and ongoing period of mourning.

Uncle Roy Mondar, of blessed memory, was killed in the horrific massacre on October 7 at the age of 50, while his father, mother, sister, and nephew were in Hamas captivity. His mother, sister, and nephew were released in one of the hostage release deals, and now it is with great sorrow that it has been reported that his father Abraham was killed in captivity.
