Not for Israel: The U.S. Sells Heavy Bombs to Saudi Arabia

While the U.S. is restricting arms sales to Israel, it has approved a massive sale of aerial bombs to Saudi Arabia worth nearly a billion dollars.

The White House and the U.S. Congress have agreed to lift all restrictions on the sale of aerial bombs to Saudi Arabia, approving the sale of heavy bombs valued at $750 million. This move comes as the Democratic administration in the U.S. has been withholding essential bombs for the Israeli Air Force for several months. Today, the administration decided to remove all restrictions on arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

The U.S. Congress, acting on the White House's recommendation, has approved the sale of various types of aerial bombs, including one-ton MK-84 bombs—a type of bomb that the administration continues to refuse to sell to Israel. The massive deal amounts to $750 million and includes a range of munitions and equipment. President Biden had pledged early in his term to minimize relations with Saudi Arabia, particularly regarding arms sales, in light of Saudi attacks on Yemen that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians.

The president had even cut off all contact with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for many months. However, the White House has now reversed course, seeking to embrace Saudi Arabia in hopes of achieving some success for its foreign policy goals.
