Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert issued a stark warning during a civil inquiry committee into the October 7th disaster, initiated by several left-wing organizations. Olmert predicted that extremist settler youth, known as "Hilltop Youth," may one day turn their weapons on Israeli citizens.
"The day will come when the Hilltop Youth, who today murder Palestinians in the territories, will shoot at us," Olmert stated.
He suggested this could happen when these groups perceive a threat to their claim on what they consider holy land. Olmert drew a connection between current violence against Palestinians and potential future attacks on Israelis deemed "disloyal" to the state.
The former prime minister referenced recent attacks on IDF bases, calling them "just the beginning." He cryptically mentioned "those who received illegal weapons from the TikTok minister," suggesting they too might turn against Israeli citizens.
Olmert emphasized that he would repeat these warnings to future inquiry committees, underscoring his concern about the potential for escalating internal violence in Israel.
His comments come amid rising tensions between some settler groups and Israeli authorities, highlighting deep divisions within Israeli society over the future of the West Bank and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
