Fatal mistake: Sinwar's move which could bring about his downfall

As Sinwar steps into a more visible role on the global stage, he may inadvertently provide the very intel needed for Israeli forces to locate and target him.

In a significant shift within Hamas leadership, Yahya Sinwar, the group's leader in Gaza, has been appointed head of its political bureau, replacing the recently assassinated Ismail Haniyeh. This promotion, while cementing Sinwar's position as arguably the most powerful figure in the terrorist organization, may ironically pave the way for his downfall.

Sinwar's new role necessitates increased communication with international leaders, potentially exposing him to Israeli intelligence efforts.

Micha Kobi, a former senior Shin Bet official who once interrogated Sinwar in an Israeli prison, shared insights with Maariv: "Sinwar has always been the decision-maker, even if he wasn't officially the head of Hamas' political bureau. Ismail Haniyeh was a figurehead compared to Sinwar."

Kobi emphasized that this appointment will strengthen Sinwar's connections with world leaders such as Erdogan, the Prime Minister of Qatar, and Egypt's al-Sisi.

However, he noted a crucial detail: "From now on, Sinwar will communicate with mediators for deals through means he's used until now. Perhaps this way, the IDF can gain more intelligence on his whereabouts and eliminate him."

The Hamas leader faces a challenging balancing act. While his new position demands greater international engagement, Sinwar is acutely aware of the threat to his life. "Sinwar will struggle to leave Gaza and the tunnels – because he knows our desire to destroy him," Kobi added.
