IDF, Majdal Shams rocket, failed interception

IDF: Rocket in Majdal Shams Not Intercepted Due to Terrain Conditions

The IDF has initiated an investigation into why the rocket that struck northern Israel over Shabbat was not intercepted. This probe follows the deadly attack on Majdal Shams that resulted in the deaths of 12 children.

According to the preliminary findings, there were no failures in the rocket identification systems, and an alert was issued 20 seconds before the impact. This differs from reports by Majdal Shams residents who claimed the alert lasted only a few seconds, Israel National news reported stated.

The IDF explained that the failure to intercept the rocket was due to the challenging terrain and the rocket's low altitude.

This morning (Sunday), the names of 11 of the 12 children and teenagers killed by the Hezbollah rocket in the Druze settlement in the northern Golan Heights were released. The victims were buried at 11:00 AM at the village cemetery.

The identified victims include:

- Fajer Laith Abu Saleh (16)

- Ameer Rabeea Abu Saleh (16)

- Hazem Akram Abu Saleh (15)

- Johnny Wadeea Ibrahim (13)

- Iseel Nasha’at Ayoub (12)

- Yazan Nayeif Abu Saleh (12)
