Weeks after being rescued from Hamas captivity in Gaza, Noa Argamani mourned the death of Lieutenant Colonel Arnon Zamora, who led the operation to free her and was killed during the mission. "Arnon, I never had the chance to meet or see you, but it is clear to me that I would not be able to write these words if you had not risked your life in the heroic rescue operation to save Shlomi Ziv, Andrei Kozlov, Almog Meir Jan, and myself," she wrote on Instagram.

"I asked about you and was told that you were a principled, wonderful, beloved person—pure, a family man, a fantastic partner, and a perfect father. This is how your wife Michal asked us to remember you, and this is how I choose to remember you."

"I want to personally and deeply thank you for courageously taking part in the rescue operation without hesitation, for choosing to save lives even knowing it would endanger your own, and for doing so repeatedly—for the hostages and for all of Israel," she added.

"I promise you that I will remember and honour you and your act of heroism everywhere, and you will always be in my heart. The phrase 'for in his death he gave us life' has gained a powerful meaning that will be woven into my life forever."

Poignant, heartbreaking and beautiful, all at the same time.
