Representatives of the IDF laid out their criteria for issuing draft orders to Haredim at the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee today (Wednesday), saying that they were first trying to draft Haredim known to be working rather than learning all day, according to N12 news.

The IDF is now required by the Supreme Court ruling to draft 3,000 Haredim on top of the 1,800 who enlist every year, already. The IDF said that it was able to map out who learns in yeshiva all day and who does not (sometimes working off the books) based on government databases from a number of ministries, a number they estimate at about 2/3rds of those currently enrolled in yeshiva from among a given draft cohort.

It is not clear what the IDF will do against Haredim who refuse to present at the recruitment office. They can declare them "deserters" and send the military police to arrest them, but additional sanctions will require special Knesset legislation.
