Today (Tuesday), the Education Ministry welcomed Israel's achievements at the 35th International Biology Olympiad, the "premier high school biology student competition worldwide," held this year in Kazakhstan. Israel won two bronze and two silver medals.

The Olympiad is comprised of two tests: practice and theory. The theoretical portion involves two three hour tests covering a range of subjects in biology, with the practical portion involving four tests covering molecular biology, bioinformatics, anatomy and animal physiology, and biochemistry.

Despite participating in the International Biology Olympiad for only the third time, the country won four medals, two bronze (Shira Gross and Sagi Axelrod) and two silver (Shalev Waxman and Amit Gesul).
