Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic Leblanc announced today (Wednesday) that Canada would be sanctioning Iran's IRGC as a terrorist group and that the country would "use all of the tools at its disposal" to combat the organization within the country, according to CTV News.
People and organizations found to be associated with designated terrorist groups can be subject to severe sanctions including lost charitable status, frozen bank accounts, and even being denied entry into the country.
Canada's Conservative Party said that this step took far too long, allowing the IRGC to fundraise and organize for years within Canada before sanctions were imposed.
