After serving in the IDF for more than 3 years and as the head of the Gaza division for just under 2 years, Brig. Gen. Avi Rosenfeld has submitted his resignation from the military following his involvement in the failures preceding Hamas's terror attack on October 7.
In a letter addressed to the head of the Southern Command and the IDF chief of staff, Rosenfeld openly acknowledged his shortcomings, admitting that he had not fulfilled his duty to protect the Gaza border communities.
His resignation letter reflects a strong sense of accountability and responsibility. "Everyone must take responsibility for their actions, and as the leader of the 143rd Division, I take full responsibility," Rosenfeld stated, indicating his decision to step down as a manifestation of his leadership principles.
Rosenfeld will continue to serve as commander and take part in the investigations into the failures of the October 7th attack until a successor is chosen.
