Today (Thursday), President Yitzhak Herzog sharply criticized the protestors rioting in Jerusalem against the Prime Minister, calling it a "red line."

At a collective bar and bat mitzvah event for orphans of parents who fell in the IDF, Herzog addressed the criticism of the mother of Sergeant Major Yossi Hershkowitz, the principal of Pelech High School, who fell in Gaza:

"Michal and I were very excited to see here and even more excited when she asked of us, with tears, just one thing: do everything to prevent the rift in the nation. To everything to fulfil the will of Yossi and maintain the unity of Israel," he noted.

"The internal division is a great incentive for our enemies"

According to the President: "This is what the people want and demand all the time - not to return to the discourse of October 6! And certainly not in the middle of the war. It is obvious to all of us that the right of demonstration and protest is one of the fundamental rights in our democracy, and that protests are a necessary and needed thing in Israeli society. But there is a way to argue and a way to dispute, and there is a way to protest, and how to demonstrate," he said.

He added that "violence is a red line which must not be crossed under any circumstances. I remind all of us that the internal division is a great incentive for our enemies, who follow it with happiness, especially in the tense days we are in. And which we face. And therefore we mustn't return to October 6. Our lives depend on it!"
