After comparing Netanyahu to Hitler and the Israeli government to the Nazis, Turkish President Erdogan conveyed a message through his ambassador that his country is interested in strengthening ties with Israel.

On Monday last week, by order of Foreign Minister Israel Katz, the Turkish Deputy Ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a reprimand following incendiary made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in wake of the Gaza campaign.

During a local speech, Erdogan stated that, "Netanyahu and his government are the Nazis of our time. [They are like] Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin, due to their actions in Gaza." The Turkish president also claimed: "We are obliged to bring these murderers to justice, subject to international law. In the human conscience - they are already convicted."

According to Ma'ariv, despite his strong sentiments, during the conversation with Turkish Deputy Ambassador, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yaakov Blitshtein claimed that the message conveyed by the Turkish diplomat was that, "President Erdogan's severe rhetoric against Israel stemmed from his political considerations in the local elections in Turkey."

According to the message delivered by the Turkish deputy ambassador, following the elections, Turkey wants to improve relations with the Jewish State, and, among other things, to welcome back the Israeli ambassador who was summoned to Israel at the beginning of the war, as well as return the Turkish ambassador to Israel.

Foreign Minister Katz was quick to send a sting in the face of the Turkish president, who has not stop accusing Israel of genocide and committing crimes in the war in Gaza. "Defeat for Erdogan's candidates in the local elections in Turkey," he tweeted, adding: "And, Erdogan - incitement against Israel no longer works - look for someone else to blame."
