A new threat to Israel? Columbian President Gistavo Petro threatened today (Tuesday) on X/Twitter that his country would cut ties with Israel if it did not halt operations in the Gaza Strip, per the recently passed UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz responded on X/Twitter that “the Columbian President’s support for the Hamas murderers who committed acts of massacre and terrible sex crimes to babies, women, and the elderly is a disgrace to the Columbian People. Israel will continue to defend its citizens and will not surrender to any pressures and threats.”

A Series of Controversial Statements

A month ago, Petro caused a stir when he called IDF operations in Gaza “Nazi.” Petro wrote of the incident in which 100 Gazans were killed when storming aid trucks that “Netanyahu murdered 100 Palestinians while they begged for food. This is called genocide and is reminiscent of the Holocaust even if the powers of the world don’t like to recognize that.”

Israel has announced in the past that it was ending weapons deliveries to Columbia. Subsequently, the Columbian Foreign Minister demanded the Israeli ambassador leave the country.
