European Union to impose sanctions on Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria

The European Union's foreign ministers agreed to impose sanctions on Israeli citizens in Judea and Samaria who they claim, "harass and practice violence against Palestinians." The decision joins similar moves by the US, UK and France.

More sanctions on Israel

The foreign ministers of the European Union decided yesterday evening (Monday) to impose sanctions on Israeli citizens who, "harass and use violence against Palestinians" in Judea and Samaria. According to the announcement of Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, the decision was adopted unanimously and binds all 27 member states of the Union.

The Union's announcement did not specify which settlers would be sanctioned, nor did it say how many people were included in the new law. According to local media reports, the original EU proposal called for sanctions on 20 residents, but a lower number was eventually compromised after Hungary vetoed the proposal.

The current decision of the European Union joins similar moves on the part of the US, Great Britain, France, and other countries.

Last week the Biden administration announced the imposition of additional sanctions against three Israelis and two outposts in Judea and Samaria. The three settlers against whom sanctions were imposed are: Neriya Ben Pazi, Moshe Sharvit and Zvi Bar Yosef, and the two settlement points are: Zvi's Farm also known as Tirza Valley outpost in Binyamin, and Moshe's Farm in the Jordan Valley.

A month ago, sanctions were imposed on four Israelis - Einan Tanjil, David Chai Hasdai, Shalom Zicherman and Vinon Levy - who, according to the US, were involved in violent actions against Palestinians.
