The Defense Ministry conducted a controlled detonation of hundreds of anti-tank mines in the Golan Heights yesterday (Tuesday).

The mines were located in and around Kibbutz Ein Zivan, having been laid in the area during the 1980s. The cleared land will now be used for farming and settlement.

While the Israeli government has cleared thousands of dunams of mines, there are still many thousands more, and those laid by Arab countries are difficult to find and more expensive to remove.
