The Transportation Ministry and the National Transport Infrastructure Company announced today (Sunday) that Doral Energy won the bid to establish 13 solar farms on land encircled or "trapped" by major junctions throughout the country.

The farms are expected to provide 85 megawatts of energy, enough to provide power for 17,000 Israeli households.

The solar farm bid is part of the Israeli government's effort to ensure it meets its planned 2030 target for renewable energy, with 30% of the country's electricity coming from renewable sources.

A broad survey conducted by the National Transport Infrastructure Company revealed that there are some 5,000 dunams encircled or "trapped" by roadways, and which can be similarly used for projects such as the Doral Energy solar farms that will now be built.
