The effort to put an end to the rocket threat to Israel from Gaza continues, receiving higher priority than in the past. IDF senior officers assess that the time it will take to entirely remove Hamas’ capacity for launching rockets into Israel will be between one and two years, according to Army Radio reporter Doron Kadosh.

According to IDF assessments, Hamas still has an arsenal of some 1,000 rockets, most of which are hidden underground, making it difficult for soldiers to find them and requiring heavy engineering equipment such as D-9 bulldozers.

The rocket fire at the Dan Bloc and the Shefelah last week was reportedly also from buried launchers in the area of a Hamas activist’s home, as IDF forces were operating nearby. The IDF are working to locate a rocket warehouse belonging to a Palestinian Islamic Jihad squad in the western part of Gaza City.
