Israel at war the 87th day: IDF spokesman Brigadier General Daniel Hagari gave a statement to the media this evening (Monday) in which he referred to all the arenas in which Israel is at war.

During the statement, Brigadier General Hagari referred to the continuation of the fighting in the Khan Yunis area. "Our forces identified suspects who were hiding among women and children, we took them in for questioning where it turned out that they were terrorists, some of whom participated in the terrorist attack on October 7th. Hagari stressed "Whether they are hiding in the tunnels or among uninvolved individuals we will get to them."

During the questioning phase, Hagari was asked whether the rift in the nation had a part in the Hamas attack. "Things will become clear in the in-depth investigation that will be done, it is likely that the characteristic of the army's disunity and preparedness is one of the characteristics related to this matter."

On the issue of returning the residents to the settlements, the IDF spokesman noted, "In the joint work of the security establishment with the heads of the councils, we formulated a plan that allows for the gradual return of the residents to the settlements at a distance of more than 4 kilometers from the border of the Gaza Strip. The plan includes a fundamental and profound change in the concept of defense, the distribution of equipment to the standby forces, the deployment of military forces, the deployment of security infrastructure, and more."

He also added that "we are in a long fight, the repatriation of the residents of the south and the north is an ongoing effort that will progress according to the operational assessment of the situation. I want to appeal to the residents of the south and the north, along with the difficulty of leaving home, your resilience in recent months is awe-inspiring and deserves great appreciation."

According to him, "Your concerns are understandable, we will be attentive to every claim. And we will build the process of returning to the settlements together with the civilian leadership. This is a long, challenging road and the onus is on us to prove ourselves. We have the duty to create security for you, this will be reflected in the reinforcement of forces in the field, in the protection of a defense space and in more elements, even if it takes time."
