Israel-Gaza War, Palestinian Authority

FM Eli Cohen: PA Not Solution for the Day After

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen addressed the question of the postwar administration of the Gaza Strip, saying that the Palestinian Authority is not the alternative to Hamas when the time comes.

Minister Cohen said that “those who think that on the day after the war in Gaza, the Palestinian Authority is the solution is wrong big time. On the day after, Hamas will not be in Gaza and the State of Israel will have permanent security control between the Jordan and the Sea. The Palestinian Authority which pays the salaries of terrorists and glorifies murderers, continues inciting actions in the education system, and which did not condemn the events of October 7, is certainly not the solution. You don’t replace a murderous terrorist organization with an Authority which encourages shahids.”

The question of control of the Strip once the war ends has been the matter of great discussion throughout the world. The United States seeks to have the PA take over. However, Prime Minister Netanyahu said yesterday (Sunday) that Israel would not trust Abu Mazen to run the Gaza Stirp due to a statement by the Palestinian Foreign Ministry that an IDF helicopter killed the Re’im partygoers rather than Hamas.

“It’s not enough that Abu Mazen has refused to condemn the terrible massacre for 44 days, now his people are denying this massacre and turning the tables on Israel.” According to Netanyahu, “Holocaust denier Abu Mazen now also denies the massacre of Hamas-ISIS.”

According to Netanyahu, “I want to be clear – on the day after we eliminate Hamas, we will not allow the ones who run the civil administration in Gaza to deny terror, to support terror, to pay terror, and teach their children terror and the elimination of the State of Israel. This, we will not allow.”
