Today (Thursday) for the first time since the establishment of the government: the Judicial Selection Committee is meeting at this moment, Knesset member Karine Elharrar from the Yesh Atid party, and the member of the committee is calling on the Minister of Justice Yariv Levin: "Israeli judges are collapsing under the load of cases, staff the dozens of existing judicial standards."

Member of the Judicial Selection Committee, MK Karine Elharrar: "Israeli judges are collapsing under the load of cases and this prolongs the duration of hearings in the courts. The main victims are the citizens of Israel. With a delay of 10 months, we cannot wait any longer and the dozens of existing judicial standards must be staffed, this especially in view of the consequences of the war that will certainly be felt in the judicial system as well. I have every hope that the Minister of Justice will rise to the occasion and work in cooperation with all the members of the committee in order to appoint independent and professional judges for all citizens of Israel."

As published last week, the Minister of Justice announced that he will convene the committee on Thursday, 3rd of Kislev, 5784, November 16, at 2:30 p.m. In addition, the Minister together with the Acting President of the Supreme Court, Judge Fogelman, announced a new appointment as the director of the courts.

In addition to the announcement about the Judicial Selection Committee, the announcement regarding the new appointment reads: "The Minister of Justice, MK Yariv Levin, with the consent of the Acting President of the Supreme Court, Judge Uzi Fogelman, appointed the President of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Magistrate's Courts, Judge Tzachi Uziel, for the position of director of the courts. The appointment will take effect from the beginning of 2024, and will be valid until the last day of 2029."
