Liberman: Returning Gaza to the PA - A Dangerous Delusion

Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman MK Avigdor Liberman tweeted on X in response to reports that the Palestinian Authority would be given control of the Gaza Strip after the war.

On X, he posted: “On August 15, 2005, the ‘Disengagement Plan’ was carried out. A move where all the settlements and settlers were evacuated from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory. The Palestinian Authority entered the territory of the Strip with the full backing of Israel and the United States and took on the responsibility of routine management and security. In addition, that year Abu Mazen was elected for the first and last time to head the Palestinian Authority and was at the peak of his powers.”

“Two years later,” Liberman continued, “in 2007, PA representatives in the Fatah, those who weren’t tossed from the roofs by the Hamasniks who took over the Strip, fled to Israel for their lives.”

Demands to Return Abu Mazen to the Strip Are A Dangerous Illusion

“Any who argue that the Palestinian Authority needs to return to rule in Gaza and take over political and security responsibility are speaking words of nonsense and detached from the reality and the capabilities of the PA. A clear example of this is seen in Judea and Samaria in the territories ‘controlled’ by the Palestinian Authority. Without Israeli backing, Abu Mazen and his government would not survive even for a moment. Everyone with a brain clearly sees that the dominant parties in the field are Hamas terrorists, Jihad, and local gangs.”

“Moreover, Abu Mazen is no peaceful savior, and is not the Palestinian Woodrow Wilson. We are talking about a serial Holocaust denier who accuses IDF soldiers daily of war crimes at the criminal court in the Hague. A man who engages in diplomatic terror daily and espouses the Right of Return, which means the end of the State of Israel as a Jewish and Zionist state. Therefore,” Liberman ended, “the demands to return Abu Mazen and the PA to the Strip amount to a dangerous delusion and illusion.”
