Who says Jews don't like money?

Half of the world's richest people are Jews

But while we are on the subject and just coincidentally – 5 out of the 10 richest people in the world are Jewish. How did they get there and who's the most unusual on the list?

In a fascinating analysis of the world's top 10 wealthiest individuals, recent data shows how technology industry leaders have come to dominate the global wealth rankings. The list, totaling over $1.8 trillion in combined net worth, demonstrates the outsized returns from early involvement in transformative tech companies.

1. Leading the pack is Elon Musk with an estimated net worth exceeding $300 billion, earned through his leadership of multiple revolutionary companies including Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter).

2. Following closely is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos at $232 billion, who transformed an online bookstore into the world's largest retailer.

3. Meta's Mark Zuckerberg ranks third with $205 billion, having built his fortune from Facebook's evolution into a social media empire.

4. Oracle founder Larry Ellison holds fourth place at $200 billion, reflecting the enduring value of enterprise software and cloud computing.

5. Bernard Arnault, the luxury goods magnate behind LVMH, is a notable non-tech exception at $165 billion.

6. Microsoft figures prominently, with founder Bill Gates ($161 billion) in sixth place.

7-8. Google's co-founders Larry Page ($158 billion) and Sergey Brin ($149 billion) demonstrate the lasting value of their search engine innovation. Warren Buffett rounds out the list at $147 billion, representing traditional value investing success.

9. Steve Ballmer joined Microsoft as approximately the 30th employee in 1980. Through stock options and share acquisitions over his tenure, eventually becoming CEO in 2000, Ballmer accumulated a 4% stake in Microsoft that has grown to be worth over $148 billion as the company reached a $3.1 trillion market capitalization.

10. Warren Buffett AKA "The Oracle of Omaha", CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, is worth $147 billion and is one one of the biggest investors in the world. His wealth was built over the years through various (very) successful investments. Buffer owns about 15% of Berkshire shares which are worth $1 trillion today.

The list highlights how early involvement in transformative technology companies, combined with long-term equity retention, has created unprecedented levels of individual wealth.

It also demonstrates the particular success of the software and internet sectors in generating massive returns for founders and early employees alike.

We would be remiss in not mentioning the fact that although Jews make up 0.2% of the world's population, half of the richest people in the world are Jews.
