Arkia CEO Oz Berlovitz announced today (Monday) that his company is launching a direct airline route from Tel Aviv to New York, which will work together with the Hitech Forum, according to Israel Hayom.
Flights will start at $1199 for a round trip flight including luggage, two full meals, and drinks.
This route, the result of a collaboration between Arkia and the Hitech Forum, which represents a sector in pressing need of regular travel to the United States for business and investment opportunities, will start on February 8, and tickets will also be available to the broader public. The plane used for this route is a leased Airbus NEO 330-900.
Meanwhile, American airlines continue to shy away from returning to service the Israel-United States route due to the repeated escalations and emergency situations arising in Israel since the war. This was especially true due to the danger of Hamas and then Hezbollah rockets and missiles potentially harming planes, crew, and passengers.
American Jews and their representatives in Congress have repeatedly complained about this effective boycott of the country, which even though driven by safety and scheduling concerns, has the appearance of joining with Israel's enemies who seek to isolate and besiege the country, depriving it of needed goods and services.
Meanwhile, those Israelis who wish to travel to Europe can expect to see the price of their tickets go down substantially, as low-cost airlines Ryanair and Wizzair are gradually returning to service the Israeli market - Wizzair within the next few weeks and Ryanair by the summer.
Whereas Wizzair only took Israelis to Cyprus before, now they can take it to 14 more destinations at a much lower cost. Though it will only return to full service by the summer, Ryanair will also be offering many destinations for Israelis cooped up during the war.
