A recent Channel 12 News report suggests that a major mistake occurred in the functioning of a tech system used by IDF's elite Unit 8200 on the evening of October 6. The unit was expected to offer much improved detailed information, compared to what was gathered prior to the October 7th tragedy, but was hindered by the dysfunctional system.
As stated in the report, once the mistake was identified, soldiers with expertise in resolving it were quickly summoned from their homes. A senior military intelligence official says they were notified right away, while others say they didn't arrive until after 3:00.
The system resumed operation at 5:00, ninety minutes prior to the start of the attack. Once it began collecting live data again and piecing together the past information that had been missed, the attack was already underway. Hamas had already begun their invasion.
The leader of Unit 8200 informed the Head of Military Intelligence, the Chief of Staff, and the director of the ISA about the technological fault. Nevertheless, a high-ranking intelligence officer stated that he had not been informed of any report indicating that the system had experienced any periods of downtime.
The IDF Spokesperson responded to the new report by stating: "The IDF is currently looking into the events of October 7 and the events leading up to it. The assertions in the report are being verified as a component of the inquiries. After finishing, the results will be shared with the public in a transparent manner.”
