The iPhone giant officially overtook the maker of Galaxy phones in smartphone deliveries in 2023, in what is otherwise considered to be the worst year in a decade for smartphone sales.

According to IDC, a global market intelligence firm, Apple has officially overtaken rival smartphone company Samsung in terms of the absolute number of smartphone deliveries in 2023, in what is otherwise considered a down year for the smartphone market, per reporting by Calcalist.

According to IDC's numbers, Apple's smartphone deliveries increased by 3.7% compared to the previous year to 2.34 billion units, compared to Samsung with just 2.26 billion.

Apple largely benefits from the maturation of smartphones, which has led to people upgrading their phones less regularly and only for more expensive and presumably more sophisticated models - a model Apple's iPhone excels at.
