Google will begin deleting personal accounts that have not been logged into for at least two years, starting this Friday. The policy will apply in stages, preceded by a number of notifications, and will not include accounts affiliated with organizations such as schools or businesses.

Google will begin deleting personal accounts that have not been logged into in the past two years this Friday, following up on a policy announced back in May.

The tech giant explained that this decision came due to security concerns regarding things like old passwords and the lack of two-factor authentication, and that this policy only applies to personal accounts, not ones used for private or public organizations or businesses.

The deletion will start with accounts that were created and never used again and move on from there.

Multiple notifications will be sent before deletion, and Google has stated that even the most minimal activity within accounts will save them from being erased.

Google also offers a number of ways to back up personal data for users uninterested in retaining their Google accounts.
