Shocking Rise in Iran Executions: Women Who Killed Abusers Face Death Penalty
HORRIFYING: Iran Executes Record Number of Battered Women in 2024
A new report by Oslo-based Iran Human Rights (IHR) reveals a troubling trend: at least 31 women were executed by the Iranian government in 2024, the highest annual toll in 17 years. Disturbingly, the majority of these women were not criminals; rather, they were survivors of severe domestic abuse. Around 70% of them had killed male partners who had subjected them to prolonged violence, rape, or psychological torment.
