Though most hikers at Harriman State Park have never heard of Chaverim of Rockland - the all-volunteer Orthodox Jewish emergency service that helps anyone in need regardless of faith - their highly trained search and rescue team proved invaluable Sunday morning when they scaled icy terrain to rescue a stranded hiker with a broken ankle, working alongside state rangers to complete the dangerous mission.
