Israeli track cyclist Mikhail Yakovlev's Olympic journey hit a bump yesterday (Wednesday) as he narrowly missed advancing to the quarterfinals. Yakovlev finished second in the repechage round, resulting in his elimination from the current track cycling event.
Had he advanced, Yakovlev would have faced a formidable opponent in the quarterfinals - Harry Lavreysen, the reigning Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020.
However, Yakovlev's Olympic dreams are not over yet. He is set to compete again on Saturday in the Keirin event. This unique competition involves riders completing six laps of the track, with the first three laps paced by a motorcycle that gradually increases speed.
Fans of Israeli cycling will be eagerly watching to see if Yakovlev can bounce back in this upcoming event.
