89 year-old Bnei Akiva ping pong champion competes in the world championship

At the age of 89, former table tennis champion and lawyer, Louis Garb from Jerusalem, competed in the World Masters Championship in Rome, Italy.

Just before turning 90, attorney Louis Garb, former champion of Bnei Akiva in ping pong, decided to make a comeback, and competed in the world championship in Rome in the veterans category. He lost in the quarterfinals to the world champion from Japan.

Aryeh Louis Garev, an 89-year-old attorney from Jerusalem, competed today in the international table tennis competition, World Masters Championship Rome 2024, and even reached the quarterfinals for a close fight against the world champion from Japan.

Attorney Louis Garev, in the past won the Bnei Akiva table tennis championship, and besides being an active lawyer and author of law books, and a cantor and opera singer around the world in the past, this year just before turning 90 he decided to compete in table tennis and this after a 60 year hiatus.

He came to the prestigious competition with his wife, Erica, and two of his grandchildren; Ariel and Natalie who encouraged him throughout the competition.

Louis Garb on the impressive achievement: "It is an honour for me to represent Israel in the international competition, there is no age limit to fulfilling personal dreams. Go out, play, and enjoy life."
