25 Israeli swimmers are taking part in the European championship in Belgrade, capital of Serbia.

Bringing solace and a sense of accomplishment to their war torn nation, the Israeli women’s swimming team clinched a gold medal in the 200x4 freestyle relay at the 2024 European Aquatics Championships on Monday.

Anastasia Gorbenko, Daria Golovaty, Leah Polonsky, and Ayala Spitz achieved victory in the finals with a remarkable time of 7:51.83 minutes.

The four swimmers improved on their second-place finish in the qualifiers of 8:04.85 minutes with a remarkable performance in the finals, securing Israel's first medal, and gold at that, on the opening day of the competition.

The men's relay team from Israel also competed in the final of the 200x4 freestyle event, but their slight disappointment came after finishing the semi-final in second place with a time of 7:11.53 minutes.

Denis Loktev, Bar Soloveitchik, Eitan Ben Shetrit, and Gal Cohen Groumi just missed out on a bronze medal, finishing in fourth place with a time of 7:09.92 minutes, only 19 hundredths behind.

Israeli swimmer Ron Polonsky broke his own Israeli record in the 100-meter breaststroke, setting a new time of 1:00.07 minutes, an improvement of 0.17 seconds. He made it to the semi-finals in third place but was knocked out and missed out on the finals.

Miron Heruti came in first in his category during the 50-meter butterfly semi-finals and advanced to the final round.

Artistic swimmers, Ariel Nassee and Shelly Bobrtsky, also from Israel won a bronze medel at the European Aquatic Championship yesterday for their artistic swimming duet. Representing much upcoming talent in the world of Swimming in Israel,

Israel and Lithuania are currently equal in second place on the medal standings, trailing behind Greece who has secured one gold and one bronze medal up to now.

The Aquatics Championships, featuring competitions in open water swimming, artistic swimming, and diving, will come to an end on June 23rd.

This marks the fourth occasion in history. Israel has achieved a European gold medal, with Gorbenko winning in the 200-meter medley in 2021 and 2022, and Kopelev winning in the 50-meter backstroke in 2012.
