So… the upcoming hostage deal. It’s all anyone is talking about and rightfully so!
As I write these words, Hamas just agreed to the ceasefire. Why we are even asking them is beyond me.
Here’s the thing though. Like most topics, you’ll only see the extreme opinions on social media.
Either it’s an amazing deal and we should definitely go for it or it’s the worst deal ever and if we sign it, we lost the war.
Of course, real life is not like social media and it’s a complicated issue.
We don’t know for sure what the details of the deal are, but we do know that it would involve eventually getting all the hostages back, in stages, and it would involve us releasing many hundreds of terrorists from our prison system.
Of course it would be impossible and irresponsible to analyze the deal without knowing all the details.
Will we stay in Gaza? If so, how deep? Will we evacuate the Philadelphi corridor? Will we get hostages alive or dead? Will we have to release terrorists who carried out 10/7? Will we give them back Sinwar’s body like they’re asking?
We simply don’t know.
What we do know is that this isn’t a simple “We won” “We lost”.
Those who are pushing for the deal are not doing it out of desire to hurt the country. They are doing it because they want to see our hostages back.
Those who are opposing the deal are not opposing it because they don’t want the hostages back. Of course they do! They just think the price is too high and that releasing so many terrorists will end up leading to more death.
Both sides have good intentions and it’s important that we stop vilifying people who don't agree with us.
As far as the war goes, deal or no deal, there is no world, no universe, in which Hamas won this war.
The same is true for Hezbollah.
There is absolutely no question that the face of the Middle East has changed forever and we’re still not done. The Houthi’s are next and then the head of the snake, Iran.
Let’s not belittle the fact that based on all the data we have, Israel has basically obliterated Hamas.
Again, does that mean there is not one Hamas terrorist left? No!
Does it mean they won’t be able to fire a rocket here and there? No. They still can.
Of course we’d all like to see a victory like the Yom Kippur war but this is not that. Times are different. This war is different.
The vast majority of Hamas’ infrastructure is gone. Their leadership? Gone!
They can dance in the streets all they want. Even when we did win those traditional wars, our enemies didn’t concede. That’s not in their nature, to surrender.
Hamas, as a large terrorist organization is no more. We need to continue pounding them, but Israel did the job.
The same is true for Hezbollah. They are humiliated and they are defeated. You don’t have to look that far. Just see what Israel has been doing throughout the ceasefire and how Hezbollah has not retaliated. They know they’re defeated.
Assad? Defeated.
If you put emotion aside, and that’s not an easy thing to do, you’ll see clearly that Israel won this war.
Do we still have work to do? Absolutely.
Of course, as far as the deal is concerned, Hamas has agreed, Israel has agreed, but the cabinet needs to approve it and there is at least one, maybe two members of that cabinet who are stating clearly that they won’t support the deal and will bring down the government if need be.
I don’t even want to think about that scenario.
If, after all the work that went into this deal, and after Hamas agreed, Israel pulls out, that would not be pretty and you can forget about the Trump we are all waiting for. This would infuriate him!
So again; while we wait to hear the final details of the deal and to see if the government will be able to get all the sign offs they need, let’s all behave a little more respectfully and responsibly. Neither side here is the villain. Both sides want what’s best for Israel. They just disagree with what that is.
If you want to vilify anyone, if you want to blame someone for the situation, blame those who carried out one of the worst events in Israel’s history, the disengagement from Gaza.
That was a travesty and if there’s one thing that has brought us to where we are today, it’s the disengagement.
But that’s a topic for another time.
Meanwhile, let’s take the win, let’s get our people back, and then let’s proceed to send Hamas back to the stone age.
