Retired General Israel Ziv addresses the recent security events and reveals his opinion on the appointment of Israel Katz as Minister of Defense.
In an interview with Radio 103FM, Ziv said: "He doesn't have the professional tools. All he can muster is common sense, and to follow that same sense in decisions, even against Netanyahu and his government if that's what he thinks is his responsibility as Minister of Defense – if he does both, I think he can do well. If he becomes Netanyahu's puppet, it will be very bad."
Ziv referred to the various battlefronts: "The war and its difficulties were not resolved and the war's objectives were not achieved – Hamas still controls Gaza, and the hostages have not been returned. Any attempt to turn and translate the IDF's exceptional military achievements into agreements is probably being pushed aside due to the agenda."
When asked if the goals in Lebanon were achieved, Ziv replied: "The answer is no. But we brought the achievements to a point where they could be translated into sustainable political achievements and arrangements under very favorable conditions for the State of Israel. Hezbollah is not in the same situation as Hamas; we are taking at least 80 rockets a day, and drones are a routine matter. Therefore, it cannot be said that we have defeated Hezbollah."
