"Certainly room’ for Trump on Mount Rushmore"
Republicans are looking to immortalize Trump in stone and law.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum suggested this week that Mount Rushmore might have room for one more president—Donald Trump.
Speaking with Fox News host and Trump daughter-in-law Lara Trump, Burgum responded to a question about whether the National Park Service, which falls under his department, might ever add Trump’s likeness to the iconic South Dakota monument.
“Well, they certainly have room for it there,” Burgum said, hinting at the possibility during the televised conversation. His comments came as Trump signed a new executive order granting the Interior Secretary authority to review whether monuments and statues removed under the Biden administration present a “false” version of American history.
Burgum also noted that Mount Rushmore will host fireworks and national celebrations in 2026 as part of the country’s 250th Independence Day anniversary.
The idea of Trump joining George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt on the granite face of Mount Rushmore isn’t new. In fact, Republican lawmakers have made several moves to honor the 45th and now 47th president.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) previously introduced legislation proposing Trump’s addition to the monument—pending the start of his second term in office. In February, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) introduced a bill that would designate June 14—Trump’s birthday and Flag Day—as a new federal holiday.
“No modern president has been more pivotal for our country than Donald J. Trump,” Tenney said in a statement. “As both our 45th and 47th President, he is the most consequential President in modern American history.”
“Just as George Washington’s Birthday is a federal holiday, this bill would add President Trump’s Birthday to that list—recognizing him as the founder of America’s Golden Age,” she added.
As America moves toward its semiquincentennial, the push to enshrine Trump’s place in American history—whether in granite or on the calendar—is gaining momentum.
