"We will shutdown the country"
Qatargate, Shin Bet Dismissal, and Hostage Deal: Mass Protest Movement Escalates Nationwide
“We will not let the Prime Minister scare us anymore. We’re done being afraid, Bibi — you hear? Now you should start being afraid.”

The protest movement intensified this Saturday evening ahead of a planned week of demonstrations across Israel. Tens of thousands gathered at Habima Square in Tel Aviv, later marching to Begin Road in a rally demanding the return of the hostages. Following the central protest at Hostage Square, southbound Ayalon Highway was blocked. Four demonstrators were arrested in Tel Aviv, and two in Jerusalem.
Maj. Gen. (Res.) Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, addressed the crowd in Tel Aviv, voicing support for business leaders and public officials who pledged to strike if the Israeli government refuses to comply with Supreme Court rulings.
“We declare that we are shutting the country down. There is no going back from here. It’s all or nothing. We are disrupting. We are striking. We are stopping the economy, the ports, transportation, schools, academia, businesses, and the streets — we are stopping the country to save it.”
“We’re done being afraid, Bibi. Now you should start being afraid.”
Yifat Calderon, speaking to the crowd on Begin Road at the rally for returning the hostages, said:
“We will not let the Prime Minister scare us anymore. We’re done being afraid, Bibi — you hear? Now you should start being afraid.”
She added:
“A deal is the only way to bring the hostages back — they are dying, tortured, starved, held captive by the very Prime Minister responsible for the disaster that enabled their abduction. He abandoned them for a year and a half. The resumption of fighting and breakdown of the ceasefire shocked us all with fear for their fate.”
“Netanyahu began undermining the deal from the first stage, making continuation impossible. He claims Hamas is hardening its stance, but the truth is, it’s Netanyahu who is hardening his stance — against the courts, the gatekeepers, and all of us. This military operation will result in the deaths of more hostages.”
Eyal Eshel, father of fallen soldier Roni Eshel, declared:
“I am the father of Roni, the heroic lookout who calmly announced on the morning of October 7: ‘Israel is at war’ — until her voice fell silent forever. But I’m here to ensure her voice continues to echo through every home in Israel. If Roni were here, she would shout loud and clear: bring our brothers and sisters back — today! The living must be rehabilitated, and the murdered must be buried with dignity in the land of Israel. Their place is not under the rubble, and their fate must not mirror that of Ron Arad.”
Michel Iluz, another speaker at Hostage Square, stated:
“We’re all talking about attempts to sabotage the hostage deal. Let me be clear — what’s happening now isn’t sabotage. When someone knowingly causes a living person to die, that’s called manslaughter. When it’s done deliberately, that’s premeditated murder. And when it’s done for political reasons — that’s simply… murder.”
At the protest in Haifa, protester Rotem Perlman-Farhi urged Mayor Yona Yahav and his deputies to defend democracy and draw red lines against the government.
“Do not allow Ben Gvir’s National Guard into Haifa,” she said, thanking Mayor Yahav for taking part in the joint statement by local authority leaders pledging to uphold the rule of law and court decisions.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid, speaking at the central rally in Habima Square, declared:
“If the October 7 government refuses to obey the Supreme Court, it becomes a criminal government. We will not be extras in Netanyahu’s deranged theater. If that happens, the economy must strike. We will organize a tax rebellion and resist all forms of insubordination to democracy’s destruction.”
