On the way to another kidnapping deal? The Qatari newspaper "Al-Arabi Al-Jadid" (The New Arab), reported this morning (Sunday) that a delegation of security and intelligence personnel from Egypt visited Tel Aviv last week, in an attempt to reach an agreement to end the war. According to the report, the Egyptian delegation tried to get answers from Israel about its willingness to completely withdraw from the Gaza Strip if a comprehensive agreement is reached.
According to the sources in Egypt, "the delegation returned without receiving any answers. Israeli officials emphasized that these points will be discussed in the war cabinet, after which Egypt will respond." They also claimed that "so far many proposals have been presented that can be implemented, which take into account the needs of all parties. But there is rigidity in the position of Prime Minister Netanyahu, who seems to want to drag out the war as long as possible."
It was also reported that Egypt invited the Palestinian factions to another round of meetings in Cairo, which will take place starting January 7. According to the report, "Cairo is working on more than one axis, and is trying to bring together the Palestinian viewpoints, in order to reach an agreement to unify the administration in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and establish one government that will be responsible."
