Ofakim Residents Changed Their Sign to Mark Residents' Bravery

The city marketed as a "city of people" will now be known as the "city of heroes." Watch.

A welcoming sign to a changed city.

A few years ago, Ofakim residents discussed how to market the city and especially what to say on the town’s entrance sign.

After a number of meetings, Mayor Itzik Danino decided that the letters spelling “City of People” would be placed at the entrance, in recognition of the unique people in the town and the variety of communities which turn Ofakim into one big, complete puzzle.

"Ofakim. City of Heroes. We Will Remember and We Will Win." Ofakim's new sign.

Now, following the heroic battles of city residents with terrorists two weeks ago - during which dozens of residents were killed, saving hundreds more – a number of residents decided to cover the original sign with a new one calling Ofakim a “city of heroes.”

The city of Ofakim, whose residents experienced the greatest disaster in its history, explain: “These heroes were revealed since we are a city of people. Ultimately, we see that simple human strength arises and fights and effectively saves the neighborhood and the city, preventing a much, much greater disaster.”
